Joshua Gaylord, MS, MFT-C

Joshua Gaylord

Marriage and Family Therapist Candidate

Joshua is a Marriage and Family Therapist Candidate. He received his master’s degree in human development and Family Studies with a specialization in Marriage and Family Therapy from Colorado State University and received his bachelor’s degree from Western Washington University in Sociology, Psychology, and Anthropology. While in the Pacific Northwest, Joshua spent his time at local non-profits working with children and families who were survivors of domestic violence and sexual assault.

Joshua has a therapeutic history of working with traumatized youth, couples, and families. He also has extensive experience providing mental health support and coaching to young adults. This work has led Joshua to become involved in the juvenile justice system, develop workshops, and provide trauma education to schools and organizations. Joshua is also very passionate about working with queer and trans youth, and is actively involved in the LGBTQIA+ community.

Fun facts: Joshua is originally from New York and lived in Washington state for many years. Now calling Colorado home, Joshua enjoys spending time with his dog Cooper, being a freelance graphic designer, and volunteering in the Fort Collins community.

Joshua believes that everyone has limitless potential and deserves safety, agency, dignity, and belonging. Joshua uses a trauma informed and systemic approach to therapy. These approaches help Joshua empower clients to develop self-authorship, celebrate their resilience, and explore the relationship they have with themselves, others, and the world around them. In the therapy room and beyond, Joshua’s passion for social justice drives him to create inclusive and affirming spaces, which he strives to do through on-going education, community involvement, and advocacy.

    Having experience in a variety of settings, Joshua knows how to connect with youth and use therapeutic approaches that encourage engagement in therapy. As appropriate, Joshua individualizes clinical interventions to best suit the needs of youth, allowing them to feel as comfortable as possible when exploring social, emotional, and behavioral challenges.
