Amanda Baker

Marriage and Family Therapist Candidate

Amanda is a Marriage and Family Therapist Candidate. She received her master’s degree in Human Development and Family Studies with a specialization in Marriage and Family Therapy from Colorado State University and received her bachelor’s degree in Psychology from the University of Northern Colorado. Before her time with Moonrise, Amanda worked at many schools and programs to support and inform children, teens, and families about community resources to help them navigate various life transitions.

Amanda has experience in working with teens and adults in their individual goals to process difficult life moments and build skills around emotional expression. She also has experience in working with couples and families through marriage counseling, parenting, conflict, and skill building like those involving communication or connection. Amanda is passionate about working with people of diverse backgrounds and is a proud ally.

Fun facts:  Amanda has a green thumb and loves taking care of houseplants and gardening. She has lived in Colorado her entire life and spends her free time reading a good book, taking pictures, cooking, and exploring the Fort Collins food scene.

With a trauma informed and culturally competent awareness, Amanda believes that everyone has something important to bring to the table. Amanda practices a strengths-based and emotion-focused approach to therapy to support people in their journey towards growth and healing. Amanda also uses a systemic perspective to therapy to focus on the ways in which our relationships, environment, societal messages, cultural background, and life experiences impact us in every moment. Amanda believes in inclusive and supportive therapeutic practices for people to build upon their agency, safety, advocacy, and self-compassion. Amanda is dedicated to her continuous learning and skill-building to better support others in the therapy space and beyond.

    Amanda helps couples strengthen their communication and connection. Amanda is skilled in working with couples facing a variety of challenges including, but not limited to, communication difficulties, conflict resolution, parenting skills, reconciliation, pre-marital, healthy separations, and life transitions.

  • Individual Therapy

    In life, we have moments and thoughts we need to process or make decisions about. Amanda uses a trauma informed and supportive approach to help identify life’s impacts and how it contributes to our current experiences and growth. Amanda is skilled in untangling ideas, thoughts, and pieces of oneself that deserve their own space.

  • Skill-Building & Connecting

    Amanda believes that alongside therapy, there are times we are always learning and practicing new skills to better support ourselves and our relationships. Some forms of skill building include setting boundaries, identifying and processing emotions, navigating communication, effective parenting, and so on. Using a strengths-based approach, Amanda gently and effectively uses processing and skill-building to connect individuals with their internal self and others.
